What is Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management has become popular in the past few years. There are several reasons for this but the main reason is that every company wants to save time, keep the environmental issues in mind as well as deliver quality products to their customers. The customer wants regular and faster flow of products, the company wants to fulfill the demand of the customer as well as gain profit. Supply chain management helps in achieving that task.

What is Supply Chain Management?

The term Supply Chain Management is defined in several ways. Some authors call it a management philosophy, some call it an operational technique while some call it management process. Even the terms involved in Supply Chain Management are rather complicated which makes it difficult to understand and utilize it. Therefore there is a need to define supply chain management in a proper way.

It is also noted that in the past more authors have defined Supply Chain, instead of defining the term supply chain management and in this case the term Supply Chain is defined as a set of three or more entities (organizations or individuals) directly involved in the upstream and downstream flows of products, services, finances, and/or information from a source to a customer.

Upstream flow deals with the organization and the supplier and the collection of raw material while downstream flow deals with the processing of the raw material by the organization, finish the product and then make sure it reaches the customer.

Supply Chain can be divided into three degrees of complexities.

  • Direct Supply Chain.
  • Extended Supply Chain.
  • Ultimate Supply Chain.

A direct supply chain consists of an organization which deals with both the supplier and the customer involved in the upstream and/or downstream flows of products, services and finances and information.

One Bad Deed

There's a fire burning in her bones.
Beware if she tries to come close.
She may kill you in one sight.
For she has grown to ignite.
She's the prisoner of light.
With no one on her side to fight.
She cannot be redeemed.
Since she did one bad deed.

Just Do It.

Just Do It

There was a time when I used to talk a lot. I want to change the world one person at a time, do this and that from Pakistan. Talking is fun. It always is. Talking is easy as well. But then something happened and changed the way I felt or saw life. It was time to be practical. I always had three aims in life (will tell later someday). I thought lets get started. I asked myself. How? I had no clue. There was university. Part time jobs. Loneliness. I was sitting one day and I saw an old book on the table and a 1 Pound coin near it. I smiled! Look at me planning and have no savings or sources. It was embarrassing. I just had to experiment. I had no other choice. I had to take the risk. I started at a smaller scale. The feeling was amazing. It made me so happy! The results were more than amazing and the blessing from heavens more than anything. Anyways, long way to climb the ladder. But summary is. You can do what you want to do. If you want to do. From a torn book in your store room and a 10 rupee not worth using note from your pocket money or even with a smile. Goodness costs nothing. Only a matter of trying. You can climb the moon, reach the stars, you can change the people around you, you can make a difference.

Disguised Art.

Disguised Art

If words were bodies,
then poems would be fists.
And art would be the way,
it felt when we kissed.

Because music would be pulses,
soaring through my wrists.
And our breaths would be lies,
disguised as hot mist.

Famous Greek Philosophers

Famous Greek Philosophers

The three main Greek philosophers in chronological order as follows.

Socrates, 469-399BCE
Plato, 428-347BCE (Student of Socrates)
Aristotle, 384-322BCE (Student of Plato)

Socrates.
He was a Greek philosopher and the main source of Western thought. He used the “Socratic method” to teach people. It is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to encourage critical thinking and to illuminate ideas. It often involves a discussion in which the defense of one point of view is questioned; one participant may lead another to contradict themself in some way, thus strengthening the inquirer's own point. He used to go to the market place and have discussion with people there. He never wrote down any of his teachings. He taught in the agora and what ever is known about him is because of what his students wrote down about him. Plato being one of them.

Socrates claimed that wisdom was his moral basis. He called himself ignorant and because he was aware of his ignorance he was wise. Socrates stood firm with his ideas and even died for them in the end. Some of the Athenians got mad at Socrates for his beliefs and teachings. They charged him with impiety, not respecting the gods, and corrupting the youth. People thought he was against democracy, and he probably was - he thought the smartest people should make the decisions for everyone
Socrates was given a trial in front of Athenian jury where he was found guilty. He died by drinking a cup of hemlock poison which the guards gave him instead of apologizing for his teachings.

Plato.
Plato’s real name was Aristocles; Plato was just a nickname given to him by his friends, whose original meaning made reference to his broad shoulders.

Plato became an enthusiastic and talented student of Socrates and wrote famous dialogues featuring his teacher verbally wrestling with opponents. he believed in the pre-existence and immortality of the soul, holding that life is nothing more than the imprisonment of the soul i n a body. In addition to the physical world, there is a heavenly realm of greater reality consisting in Forms, Ideals, or Ideas (such as Equality, Justice, Humanity, and so on).

As his crowning achievement: He wrote a famous treatise (The Republic) on the ideal society, in which he expressed the thought that a philosopher, of all people, should be king. He wrote 20 books, with Socrates as the main character.

he founded a school of learning which he called the Academy. Plato's school is often described at the first European university. Its curriculum offered subjects including astronomy, biology, mathematics, political theory, and philosophy.

Aristotle.
Aristotle was Plato's best student. He went on to become the very well-paid tutor of Alexander the Great — probably the highest paid philosopher in history. Aristotle started his own philosophical school when he was 50 years old. Although he lived only ten more years, he produced nearly a thousand books and pamphlets, only a few of which have survived.

Aristotle  was called a peripatetic philosopher (peripateo ="to walk around") because he liked to lecture to his students while taking a walk.

A key theme in Aristotle's thought is that happiness is the goal of life. Aristotle was a good deal less other-worldly than Plato. He voluntarily went into exile from Athens when conditions became a bit politically dangerous for him, in his words, "lest Athens sin twice against philosophy."

The founder of logical theory, Aristotle believed that the greatest human endeavor is the use of reason in theoretical activity. One of his best known ideas was his conception of "The Golden Mean" — "avoid extremes," the counsel of moderation in all things.

Heroes of Pakistan - Hassan Sadpara

Hassan Sadpara was standing at the top of Mount Everest, he had finally done it! He offered prayer and thanked Allah for sometime, exactly at that moment he remembered that he had to keep a promise made to his son. The weather wasn't perfect and a storm was near, he asked others for help who refused, but he had to do it. He left the camp, reached as high as he could and then took out the #Pakistani flag from his bag and raised it, this was the flag he had bought after borrowing money from his friends because he wasn't rich enough to afford it. But he wanted to do it, and at 6:00 GMT, 11th May 2011, Pakistan's flag was proudly waving in the air above anything in this world. Tears rolled over! He was extremely happy, It was the proudest moment of his life, and why not? He had become the first Pakistani to have climbed all six eight-thousanders mountains of the world, but more importantly he became the only mountaineer to summit all these mountains without using supplemental oxygen. His aim was to conquer all the other remaining peaks because it was his passion. When I visited him at his rented house two years later he looked sad. He had no job, even though he was promised by the government of #Pakistan. He had to leave what he loved to feed his family. Today he owns a shop that sells mountain gear to other mountaineers and he does that with sadness and without a choice. Hopefully we shall recognize our true heroes and give them the respect they deserve. Hopefully something will change and he will be able to continue his dream, hopefully.

All about Everything

Jesus Christ

All of a sudden everything changes and you are left to ponder what went wrong and how did it go wrong but I guess that is how everything is these days. This everything includes life, circumstances, situation, behavior, moods and even people.

Must say the way everything is right now, it is driving me up the wall. This has to be the spitting image of things that happen every year at a specific time and make me double think the way I have chosen for myself.

This is always a phase where you have to take a few tough decisions so that you don't depend on everything for everything. For sure you want a proper plan to tackle everything that goes on and the longer you delay it the tougher it gets and everything gets messed up and I guess my phase is here, I have to decide the future course of action and if I leave it too late, I will be caught between two stools.

The way I will or have decided upon can be the wrong way or can be the only way forward, but we don't know, we might never know, but sometimes when you have to make a choice, you have no choice you just have to trust your instincts and that is what I am doing, irrespective of the consequences because for me it is the right thing to do, or maybe the only thing to do to stop everything from changing.

Knowing you have to give up so much, knowing that you will have to give up on most of your dreams, the people you care about, the people you want in your life, the places and things that have been a part of your life for a long time, it is not easy, but everything is scary, everything must not change,

On the flip side, it takes the toll on you, trying to do your best without even worrying about everything is exhausting, it is suffocating. There is only so much a human can do and there is only so much I can do but then you know, in your mind, not in your heart, but in your mind that mentally you can't do it no more.

No one wants everything to change, and same is the case with me as I don't want to wake up one day and realize I have lost all of myself when I could have done something to stop it, and for that sacrifices will have to be made, as much as kills me to admit, I will risk everything so that everything does not change and some of me is left to survive.

Heroes of Pakistan - Raja Tiridiv Roy

This is Raja Tridiv Roy, who gave away his kingdom to be with Pakistan during one of the country’s most turbulent periods in 1970's. Just like most other Pakistani heroes he is unknown to us. When Bangladesh got separated he stayed a Pakistani and was forced to leave his Chakma tribe in Chittagong and later dedicated all his life for Pakistan. He was Pakistan's ambassador to Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, former government adviser, writer, Buddhist leader and was also named minister-for-life by Government of Pakistan. In 2012 Tridev Roy died from cardiac arrest in Islamabad at the age of 79. May God bless him.

Heroes of Pakistan - Abdus Sattar Edhi

Abdus Sattar Edhi

Until meeting Abdul Sattar Edhi, I had never met a saint. Within a few moments of shaking hands, I knew I was in the presence of moral and spiritual greatness. 65 years ago, he gave up everything and stood on a street corner in Karachi and begged for money for an ambulance, raising enough to buy a battered old van. Today, he owns the biggest ambulance service of the world, has opened orphanages, homes for mentally ill, drug rehabilitation centers, hostels for abandoned women, feeding the poor and burying the dead all over Pakistan. His compassion is boundless and no Pakistani since Jinnah has commanded the same reverence. May Allah bless him with a long and healthy life.
