Clinging on to Hope...

Written By: Amna Aziz

After going through the day to day tensions and sometimes things much more serious, there finally comes a time when we feel like breaking down. Tears seem to be the easiest solution and so we seek a loved one’s arms or a lonely dark corner and cry.

When the heart-wrenching sobs finally subside, they are replaced by a tired and submissive silence. Peace seeps through the veins, calming the tensed nerves as if the tears have taken the pain with them. Somewhere deep down the battle still rages on; the futile war between the optimist and the pessimist within the soul, the war between “I can” and “I can’t”; crushing the very fabric of all the hopes, dreams and wishes cooped inside. But at the time even the attainment of such a superficial and surface calm appears to be a blessing because it gives us the courage to keep this act intact, to keep performing our best on life’s stage, to keep living; and in some primitive part of the mind to keep hoping, dreaming and fantasizing.

The symphony of life beholds not only the Beethovenic lilt but the bull frog’s choir singing too, and so we live on. We again start moving through the long, dark and lonely tunnel with the tiny flame of hope kindling into a fire at the sight of the faintest light ahead. This is what human life is about: falling down and getting up again. People who fall the hardest, rise to be the greatest. Dreams are broken but time heals those wounds, and eventually new dreams take their place.

Thinking is dreaming, dreaming is believing and believing makes one strive for what they believe in. Hope is the seed that grows into a beautiful tree of dreams and this tree flowers with blossoms through our determination and steadfastness to acquire what we desire.
